WEEK 38

This Week From Elder Colin Eyre in Vina del Mar Chile:

This week was pretty good!  Sunday we had three inactive people come to church and our investigator Daniel also came.  I was pretty happy about that.  Daniel has been to church with us twice and is close to baptism.  However he has mild autism and so we want to make sure he really understands what he is committing to before we baptize him.  I feel like he really does understand everything but he is just a little bit slow. It was funny it poured rain all day Sunday and only half the members showed up for church.

Anyways Chile is pretty good.  The rain makes it harder to make contacts outside but normally the people feel bad that we are all wet and so they let us in.  It's a great way to get into the homes Haha!  Vina is really cooling off.  The cold is much different than Utah.  With all the humidity in the air it feels much colder and gets to the bones real quick!  Wednesday we have transfers so we will see what happens.

I am learning there is a big plus to being a twin out in the mission field.  I find that I don't really get mad  at very many things with my companion.  When ever we have disagreements I am able to shake things off pretty quick and that has been a great advantage.

Chile is sweet I love being able to grow so much here.  The longer I am here the more I think about Christ and his way to heal us and make us whole!   The other great thing is I love doing service.  Sometimes in the moment of service it might rip but when you are done it always feels so good!  If you have not seen the Mormon message "Lift" you need to watch it. It is about a woman who was diagnosed with MS and how the ward members help her.

Peace out and I love you all,
Elder Colin Eyre

This Week From Elder Colby Eyre in Santiago Chile:

Hey family and friends!

My comp and I had a great week.  Our investigators are still progressing. I feel like Veronica and Ivory are the closest to baptism so we will see maybe I will have two baptisms on my birthday - wouldn't that be awesome!

We have had so much rain lately.  Sunday it rained ALL day long.  When it rains here in Chile the streets turn into rivers.  On our way to church we had to cross this really big street that literally had turned into a river.  There were some guys with shopping carts that if you paid them they would cart you across so you wouldn't get drenched.  We didn't have any money to give them ...  So we swam!

A few nights ago we were on our way to a lesson when a member came to us and said her house had caught on fire the previous night.  We decided to go and get another member to come with us to help her.  On our way to that members house I had to go down this ally.  I was greeted by this massive dog that looked half bear half dog.  I walked past the beast trying not to look at it.  Then it came up behind me and tried to mall me!  Luckily I had on this large rain coat my mom had just sent to me.  It took a pretty big chunk out of my new coat :(.  I took off running to get to this gate - which was locked!  Now the beast was right in front of me.  I just closed my eyes and slowly walked out.  I can't believe I made it out alive.  I didn't know this but my comp had seen the dog and didn't even follow me in! - Heavenly Father does watch out for us!

On a spiritual note, one day when we had been out contacting with no success we decided we would stop and say a prayer.  Then less than five minutes went by and we found this guy and he really wanted to listen to what we had to say.  We even have another lesson set up with him later this week.  It was so great to have our prayer answered so quickly.  I know God listens to each and every prayer we offer to him.

Thanks to everyone who has helped me get where I am. I love you all!

WEEK 37

This Week From Elder Colin Eyre in Vina del Mar Chile:

This week was pretty good!  First of all I experienced a small miracle with my iPod!   Remember here in Chile the power is different, just ask my bro Colby he ruined his electric toothbrush his first week here!  Anyway I plugged my iPod Nano straight into the wall without using my power converter.  I have seen so many missionaries do it this way so I figured I would be ok.  Wouldn't you know it my iPod did not power up and just seemed completely dead.   I was like Oh Nutzzz!!!  I was so worried I grabbed my converter and plugged it in again with that.  Nope still didn't turn on.  I was SO sad.  I mean this is the only semi normal thing I still have electronic wise.  I have my mormon messages, my church music and great stuff like that on this little device.  I just prayed and hoped that night that it would work the next day.  Guess what?  Yep the next day it turned on.  I really felt like God worked a small miracle for me.  I was so happy and grateful :)

Another great thing that happened was a fifteen year old kid we had contacted on the streets earlier in the week showed up at church on Sunday.  We just love when this happens.  Now we did find out that there is a girl that goes to church that he knows.  I hope that wasn't the only reason he came but it was all good.  Then we have been working with a menus activo (inactive)  this week and she also wanted to go to church.  I was SO happy.  It was such a great feeling to be walking to church with someone that was coming back after being away for such a long time.  Then there is Alejandro who came to watch General Conference with us we are still working with him.  We didn't see him this week because he was headed to Santiago to study.  He called us while he was gone and asked where he could get scriptures!  He also just wondered how we were doing, so cool!  I told him my twin bro was somewhere in Santiago and to go find him.  When he called he said he wasn't able to find an Elder Eyre in Santiago.  Oh well maybe next time.

Yesterday we got to eat dinner with some dude from Orem, Utah.  His name is Molina and he is here visiting his brother for a few weeks.  It was great talking to him.  He left me with some great advice.  Something that I know I need to work on.  He said I just need to love the people with everything I have.  I know that I need to do this and everything else will fall into place. His advice was awesome.

Thanks for reading this long letter, love you guys tons!  I hope utah is heating up cuz Chile is cooling down!

This Week From Elder Colby Eyre in Santiago Chile:

Hey Guys this week has been pretty good. We had Stake Conference Sunday and an area seventy came to speak to us which was awesome.  We were able to get our investigator Ivory to come to the conference as well.

Now here is the crazy thing.  Our other investigator Veronica had an infected wisdom tooth.  We set up for a member to help her and take her to the hospital.  So this member and Veronica were just talking about the procedure they would be doing at the hospital.  Well anyone that knows me knows quite well that I don't do well discussing or seeing any thing to do with any type of medical procedure.  The next thing I know I can feel myself getting light headed.  I'm thinking crap I can't pass out! I've been taught a few techniques over the years to help me not pass out.  The first one is to cough, so I start making myself cough and I'm now thinking this isn't working and I know I'm about to go down so my last resort was to squat.  Veronica and the member are still talking and I am just squatting and my comp is looking at me like I'm a real weird-o.  Then Veronica says Elder Eyre you are white as a ghost!  Well my squatting worked and I didn't pass out but I was SO close.  They all thought it was pretty funny when I told them why!  Wish me luck Monday because we are supposed to be getting a flu shot.

Today we were waiting for the bus to take us home after buying groceries.  Then this taxi pulls us and the guy rolls down his window and says Elders where can I take you?  It turns out he is a member of the church.  We get in the cab and then he says either of you from Utah.  I let him know that I was and then he tells us he is moving to Utah in May. He told us that his family had been robbed last week and that they had taken everything of value except they didn't find the money they had saved to move or their passports.  He said he knows his family is supposed to be moving and this was a confirmation that they were doing the right thing.

One of the great things about the mission is meeting so many different people and hearing their cool stories.  We hear so many different things from members and investigators that always help to strengthen my testimony.  To be on a mission is such a blessing!  I hope everyone has a great week back home. I love you all!

WEEK 36

This Week From Elder Colby Eyre in Santiago Chile:

Hey guys this week was great!  General Conference was super awesome.  You probably don't remember but last conference I had to watch it in Spanish and that was so hard for me but this time it was in English!  It was such a blessing I loved it and all the talks were just so great and the spirit was so strong!

This week we have been pretty busy working with all our investigators like Claudia and Ivory.  They are both still progressing toward baptism so I still have high hopes for that in the near future.

I loved all of conference but my favorite talk was Elder Holland's closing talk.

"Keep loving, keep trying,  keep trusting, keep believing, keep growing.  Heaven is cheering you on today, tomorrow and forever." - Jeffrey R. Holland.

I love this so much!  I know that no matter how many times we fail Christ always wants us to come back to him and he can heal us.  Heavenly Father is always there for us and is cheering us on. Thanks so much for everything you guys do for me back home I love you all!

This Week From Elder Colin Eyre in Vina del Mar Chile:

This week was pretty sweet.  I saw some miracles happen and I mean who doesn't like miracles.  Thursday we were walking and just going hard in the streets when some dude in a suit comes out of his front door and calls us over.  I thought for sure he was going to try to sell us drugs.  Then he starts telling us that yesterday he had gone to an institute class and they talked about heaven.  He then said he just loved it and wanted to know more!  We were like uhhhh OKAY!  We then set up an appointment with him for the next day and planned to teach him at the church.  We met him Friday and had a great lesson on the restoration which was pretty awesome.  After that successful lesson we invited him to Saturday's General Conference.  He came and loved it and then showed up for Sunday's conference as well.  I was like holyyyy smokes, I know Heavenly Father had put us in just the right place at the right time and he was so ready to hear the gospel.   I actually didn't watch conference with him he went with Elder Pan because I wanted to listen to it in English.  Afterward Elder Pan said he had not only listened to all of it but took lots of notes!  During conference one of the apostles testified of what Elder Pan and I had shared with him about the restoration.  Our investigator showed us his notes and had written WOW I guess Elder Pan and Elder Eyre were right!

I just love to see people progress.  I know that God works miracles.  Conference was the best it was the first time in my life that I didn't want it to end.  Elder Holland's talk was one of my favorites.

"Please remember tomorrow and all the days after that, that the Lord blesses those who want to improve, who accept the need for commandments and try to keep them, who cherish Christ-like virtues and strive to the best of their ability to acquire them.  If you stumble in that pursuit so does everyone, call on the Savior to help you and keep you going."  Jeffrey R. Holland

I'm so glad to belong to a church that is led by living prophets and apostles.  I know this is the true church!  Anyways love you guys tons thanks for everything that you do and for all the prayers.

WEEK 35

This Week From Elder Colin Eyre in Vina del Mar Chile:

Easter Sunday was dope but its not that big in Chile. The kids do have fun with it so I had a bunch of chocolate for the kids and was loaded with it on Easter Sunday.  The best part was sharing it with my comp, Elder Pan!!!  It is so nice to have a comp thats also your friend.

On Sunday we woke up and I hurried and made German pancakes, they were so good!  After I read the solid family letter that I had received in my Easter package so thanks fam!  I started crying reading it cuz I just love my fam so much but it was so weird I just hurried and started praying for comfort.  I didn't want to be sad all day so I did the normal start to my prayers.  I was saying all the things I was grateful for and then asked for a boat load of comfort to not be homesick.  Then in my prayer I started to think about Jesus' sacrifice for us and my mind changed so quickly it was awesome.  It just made me really grateful for what Jesus Christ has done for everyone of us.  That we actaully can return back to our loving Heavenly Father through his atoning sacrifice.  To think about the pain he felt for each one of us just made me fell super appreciative that someone has that much love for all of us.  I loved it so much!

After my prayer I brought the Eyre Easter Egg Hunt to Chile.  Well to my comp anyway! I hid like ten bucks in plastic eggs around the apartment.  I hid them in way good spots like the oven and water heater haha!!  Then I told him to go and told him he had three minutes to find them.  I don't think he has ever been on an Easter egg hunt!  I had to give him a ton of pointers.  It was so funny I was laughing SO hard.  They really weren't that hard to see and he just had such a hard time.  In the end he found 3 of the 4 eggs.  I called time right before he set his hand on the last egg.  I was like noooo times up haha!!!  It was so awesome to do that and we were both so happy for the rest of the day!

The rest of the week was good we had Zone Conferences and the Mish Pres. was watching over my shoulder during lesson practices.  I was so nervous I didn't want to screw up!  In the end it was prefect and after when I gave him a hug good bye he told me good job!  That was cool and gave me a great boost of confidence in my lesson teachings.

Anyways I'm sick of writing so everyone have a good week!  I love Utah its got the best snow on earth and enjoy and listen to conference this week! I love you all peace out thanks for the prayers!

This Week From Elder Colby Eyre in Santiago Chile:

Hey guys this week has been pretty good.

We had to change the date of Claudia's baptism because of some health issues that she had this week but she still wants to be baptized.  Hopefully that will be in the near future.

We have two other people that have accepted baptism dates and they are awesome! The first is Ivory, he is 14 years old and already has such a strong testimony!  The second is Veronica we've been teaching her for a while but this last week we went into the lesson planning to ask her if she would commit to baptism.  I was a little scared that she would freak out but she took it all in and accepted to be baptized!!!  After I was like that was awesome!  Sometimes you just need to be straight forward with people and then the spirit will do the rest and testify to them that what they are learning is TRUE!    It is so neat to see how the spirit can work with people. I have seen the lives of so many change through this gospel and with the spirit.  I know the gospel is true and if we let it, it can change our lives! I hope everyone had a great easter! love you all!
