WEEK 73

This Week From Elder Colin Eyre in Vina del Mar Chile:

This week was good we have been helping our friend Joel prepare for baptism which is fun.  He is planning to be baptized this Friday and then receive the Holy Ghost the day of Christmas haha how cool is that:)  My comp and I are pretty happy about it!

Right now we are working with several families and it makes me so happy.  I love being here during Christmas.  Sometimes it is hard to be away from the family but at the same time it's awesome to be helping others.  I love the Chileans they are really funny and I sure love it:)

I hope all is well in Utah and that everyone can enjoy Christmas and serving others. #ILUMINAelMUNDO

This Week From Elder Colby Eyre in Santiago Chile:

Hey guys this week down here in Chile has been fun, super hot but fun. Especially because this on New Years Eve my comp and I are going to have the opportunity to baptize a sweet girl named Monserrat.  It is going to be really fun I'll try and send pics next week.

I have also loved all my Christmas letters from the family.  It has really helped to get into the Christmas spirit and think all about Christ. This week my Grandmother sent me a letter with a story about not just knowing scriptures and words but also knowing the man behind them CHRIST our Savior and redeemer.  I really loved it and thought a lot about and how well do I truly know my Savior.  It has made me think about do I feel the words in my heart or just have them memorized to share with people. Being honest I strive everyday to know Christ better.  On my mission I get a front row seat in seeing Christ work in people's lives and I know that he really lives!  I invite everyone to strive to know Christ better and feel his love for us.

I love all you guys back home so much and I wish you all a very Merry Christmas!

WEEK 72

This Week From Elder Colin Eyre in Vina del Mar Chile:

This week was pretty good we are working  hard!  We have been trying to be with the investigators a lot so that they can be prepared for baptism.   We are teaching the family of Margot and they are just awesome and so funny!  The parents are not married and they are planning to get married soon.  When you get married in Chile when you need two people that can witness the marriage.  They asked me to be one of those witnesses so that will be awesome.  Their son is also going to be baptized the 23rd of diciembre so I'm pumped about that:)))

This Christmas season has been fun.  I love trying to to things with all the families here and see people put their trust in the Lord because they receive so much happiness!  Anyways thanks for the prayers and the love.  I love every one in the USA so much haha and in Chile but have a solid week and enjoy the snow:)

This Week From Elder Colby Eyre in Santiago Chile:

Hey guys this week has been super awesome.  My amazing mom has sent me 25 Christmas letters from family and friends with 25 great stories for Christmas.   I have been thinking a lot about Christ and his love for us. I just love the new Christmas video for this year on LDS.ORG.  With all the stories I have been reading it also has made me think of service and the great service that the Savior has done for each one of us.  I have thought about how I can serve others and the joy that I receive when I serve someone else. I have found that on my mission I have been filled with joy to be able to serve others and help them gain a testimony of our Savior Jesus Christ. It has made me so thankful for everything that I have and I know that my Savior lives and that he loves each and every one of us.

Have a great week everyone I love you all.

WEEK 71

This Week From Elder Colin Eyre in Vina del Mar Chile:

This week was pretty good we have been working a ton.  We have been working with Hermana Margot's family.  They are a large family of eight and are originally from Peru.  One of the kids, Joel has already set a baptism date so that is super exciting!  The family is just so nice and the dad even gave me a real cool shirt for a gift :)

We are also working with another family and they aren't able to go to church but they feel really good when we share our message with them which is awesome:)  I know the Lord is blessing us so much and if we can have faith in him we can recieve many blessings through the gospel of Jesus Christ!

I had to go to ViƱa this week which is like five hours away from my little pueblo but it was fun and I learned a lot.  I had to do a ton of contacts in the night which is just walking around and talking to people.  Well we met some Chinese dude that didn't speak any Spanish haha!  It was way funny because I said in Spanish to him, "Hey we have a present for ya!" Then he speaks back in English, "Umm I don't speak Spanish!" I was like, "Hey that's ok I speak perfect English too!"  It was pretty funny :)

I'm happy so happy to be on the mission but I still miss the family and the snow a lot:) Anyway, love all you guys so much have a good week.

This Week From Elder Colby Eyre in Santiago Chile:

Hey guys this week has been super awesome!  I love the new Christmas video of Light The World that the church put out.  We have been having lots of fun and have been sharing all the Christmas cards with tons of different people in the street and it's super fun to do! I can't tell you how many times I've seen the video but every time that I see it I can definitely feel the spirit and I love it.  I can feel the love the Lord has for us and how important it is to show that same love to people around us by serving them.  I know that by serving people we will not only be able to light our own lives but also the lives of the people we serve.  I invite everyone to go to mormon.org and see how you can light up the world.

This past week I have been studying about our Savior so that I can grow to be more thankful for what he has done for us.  I know that thanks to him we can have eternal families and can have lots of joy in our lives!  I love all of you guys so much back home and hope you all have a Merry December and can remember to light up the world with Christ!

WEEK 70

This Week From Elder Colin Eyre in Vina del Mar Chile:

This week was pretty good.  So much has happened but we saw a huge miracle with a family we have been teaching this week.  We had a Stake Conference in a place called Los Vilos and its like 2 hours from my sector.  I did not expect this family to show up for it.  The whole family showed up and went with our small branch to Los Vilos for the conference.  That was a miracle and and I just loved it so much!

We are also teaching a guy named Oscar.  He is just gold and is looking for direction in his life.  He is so interested to hear about the gospel of Jesus Christ.  It truly is so cool how the Lord prepares people to learn more about the gospel and I know that he can help each and everyone of us in our own personal lives as well :)
Anyways, I hope life is good in the U.S.A!  Currently I'm wearing USA socks and I think people are staring at me weird cuz of them hahaha but I don't care:)
Elder Colin Eyre

Love ya guys have a good week:)

This Week From Elder Colby Eyre in Santiago Chile:

Hey guys this week has been pretty good. I definitely missed out on a solid Thanksgiving again here in Chile.  I guess they aren't very thankful... kidding!  Last year I was pretty bummed when I realized it was an American holiday, so this year I decided to cook a pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving!

It was super awesome because this week we got to have a meeting with our mission president, President Morgan.  It was at his house and it was super awesome because he always teaches us pretty simple things about the gospel.  Sometimes we forget about the basics or just over complicate things.  He also talked to us about our testimonies.  As missionaries we sometimes try and make this super long perfect testimony.  Well that isn't what it is about.  We should be more focused on what comes from the heart.  When we bare our testimonies from the heart they may be simple or long but when it is from the heart it will be more meaningful to us and to the person receiving it.  Often the small and simple testimonies from the heart are the strongest :).

Thanks everyone back home so much for supporting me.  I love ya guys so much have an awsome weeK!

WEEK 69

This Week From Elder Colin Eyre in Vina del Mar Chile:

This week was pretty sweet!  First it was awesome to be with my companion, Elder Arias because last tuesday was his birthday so I made it real special cuz sometimes it can be hard out here with out the family and so we ate a bunch of junk food and we had two birthday cakes during the day haha! It was cool and I think he was pretty happy because after he told me he had never had a birthday like that in his life so it was cool! We also had changes this week and I'm staying here in Salamanca with my companion so we can still help some people out together!

Last Sunday I had been praying that we could see some miracles during the day and a family that we have been working with finally came to church!  It just made me sooo happy and now they can start to progress.  The parents aren't married but they are going to get married the 6th of december and it just made me so happy!

Sunday night we had set up a meeting with a guy that is twenty five and he is the kid of one of our old investigators and we taught him a lesson.  The lesson went so well and it was time to go home and I was like hey we gotta go and we was just like okay but I want to tell you guys something.  Then he told us that lately in his life he had been passing through hard times and he said he just needed a guide in his life.  He said the he wants someone to help him be happier and he was just like so I want to thank you guys so much for coming over.  It made me soooo happy and my comp and I were just walking home like almost crying!!!

Today we were walking into the church to play ping pong haha cuz in Chile in every church they have a ping pong table.  We go to open the gate and this old guy wanted to talk to us.  It ends up that he lives very far away and he cant come to church.  Well he wanted to pay his tithing and I was just astonished at what he said.  It was such a privilege to be able to see how happy he was to pay his tithing.  I know he will be blessed for what he is doing and the sacrifice he is making.

Life is good in Chile.  I am happy with my comp.  I hope all is well in Utah and you guys can enjoy Thanksgiving!

Love ya guys a ton peace out:)

This Week From Elder Colby Eyre in Santiago Chile:

Hey guys this week has been pretty good here in Chile.  It's super hot but its still great being able to preach the gospel and get a tan at the same time haha kidding!

This Sunday I had the pleasure of giving another talk in sacrament meeting and being able to teach the Elder's Quorum class.  It was a lot but I studied for both of them and they turned out pretty good and I was happy.  When it was over I was thinking that before my mission if you were to ask me to do that I would probably have peed my  pants haha!  When I got up to talk and when I taught the class I could really feel that I was super calm and I know that has definitely come from the mission.  It made me super happy to think of all the progress I have made and it was in Spanish too!

I've really grown to love the gospel and even when we are pushed super hard and we're struggling I know that at the end we grow a lot and I'm thankful for the opportunity that I've been given.

Thanks everyone back home I love you all have a great week!
Elder Colby Eyre

WEEK 68

This Week From Elder Colin Eyre in Vina del Mar Chile:

My comp and I had a good week!  It was our last week of the change so we tried to work really hard and teach lots of lessons.

We also witnessed a small miracle that was pretty cool!  We have been teaching a lady for a few weeks which has been great.  However she works on Sundays so she can't go to church and thats a huge bummer.  Sunday we were walking to church and we saw her.  She stopped and told us that she had found a new job and will be able to go to church so that made me very happy!

The work here in Salamanca is hard sometimes and right now it is really hot.  The awesome thing is that the people are very loving and the branch is starting to grow!

Thanks for the love from everyone back home.  I know it's almost Thanksgiving so I hope you all can be chillin and eat a huge turkey!  Have a great week Utah love ya tons:)

This Week From Elder Colby Eyre in Santiago Chile:

Hey guys this week has been really awesome.  We were able to go to the temple with a recent convert for the first time to do baptisms for the dead.  My companion and I were the witnesses of the baptisms.  It was super awesome to be able to see a youth that is only fifteen go to the temple for the first time!

Our mission also had the great blessing to have Elder Rasband come and speak to us.  He spoke about being more attentive to the spirit and paying more attention to what the spirit is saying to us.  It was really amazing to hear from an apostle and be able to shake his hand afterward.  His talk really made me want to improve and rely more on the spirit and pay attention to it.  I know that when we do we can be more effective as missionaries.  One thing I have learned is that its really not what I do that converts the people but it is us inviting the spirit in and listening to it.  When we do this it helps the person feel the spirit and then they can be converted by the spirit.  Hope that makes sense!

Before Elder Rasband came in President Morgan asked all two hundred of us to not talk and not move before Elder Rasband came into the chapel.  It was silent and no one was moving.  We were just excited to hear from an apostle of God.  Then I see one of Elder Rasband's security guys walking towards me and I realized it was Brother Porter from my stake back home.  He motioned for me to get up and come out with him.  I wonder what all those missionaries thought!  I was just so happy to see a familiar face from home.   We talked outside for a minute and he gave me some treats from my family!  It was awesome, I got some strange looks when I went back inside :)

Love all you guys back home have a great week.

WEEK 67

This Week From Elder Colin Eyre in Vina del Mar Chile:

The past week we have been so busy!  Right now the area I am in the members are super spread out and so are the towns.  This one town we went to used to have a branch and now there is only 1 active family.  That just means there is a lot of work for us to do!

We were out contacting and met this guy who invited us in - YES!!  He had a pool table and wanted to challenge us in pool.  Well I played him and lost but I should have won. Anyway it was all good:)

Everything is great here in Chile.  I hope everyone has a good week.  I love this gospel and how it blesses each and every person that obeys the commandments!:)

Love,
Elder Colin Eyre

This Week From Elder Colby Eyre in Santiago Chile:

Hey guys this week has been pretty good.  My comp and I have been getting along great.  He is way cool and it's nice being with someone from the states.

The new ward that I'm in is also really awesome.  It's weird going from a small branch to a ward with lots of active members.  I am back in the city and there are people everywhere!

I think the miracle for the week was this past Sunday.  We went on the hunt for this new convert family that moved into our ward but with boundary changes they kind of got lost in the shuffle.  They haven't been back to church since the change.  We had been going by their house so many time during the week I can't even count - and no luck.  Then they were home Sunday and invited us in!  We shared an awesome Mormon Message from President Monson that they loved and had a short lesson.  They seemed to be really happy we stopped by and said they would be at church the next Sunday so we are super pumped about that.

I hear elections are today so everyone good luck and may God be with you all!

Have an awesome week everyone!

WEEK 66

This Week From Elder Colby Eyre in Santigao Chile:

Hey what's up everyone!  This week has been pretty good here in Chile the weather is really starting to heat up which sort of stinks. I will say I like the heat more than the cold!

My new companion is pretty awesome we have been doing pretty great together.  It's a little weird to be with someone that speaks English because I haven't really spoken much English in the past 4 months.

I'm loving the new ward that I'm in because so many members are pretty open to coming with us to go preach the gospel to investigators in the area.  I can't tell you enough how much it helps.  I would encourage all of you guys to go ask the missionaries if you can go to a lession with them.  It really is such a game changer when the members are there to help and support.

Sunday during sacrament meeting I had to present myself in the new ward.  My mission president showed up to the sacrament meeting so that made me really nervous.  In the end, besides my red face it all turned out pretty well.

Well I had my last Halloween here in Chile.  It is pretty lame for the missionaries because we have to be in early.  I was really missing my mom's chili and breadsticks when there was a Halloween miracle.  My mom sent me a Halloween package with all the Halloween candy and I got it on Halloween!

I love all of you guys back home and I know the church is true. Have a great week.

Elder Colby Eyre

This Week From Elder Colin Eyre in Vina del Mar Chile:

This week was pretty awesome we were able to baptize my friend Ricardo!  He was so happy and I just know that coming to church has changed his life and made the family so happy.  During sacrament meeting on Sunday I was able to confirm him and it was really cool!  After Ricardo wanted to sit next to us and we were just sitting there and I just started to cry because God has been answering my prayers.  It is so awesome to know that now this little kid will be able to receive so many blessings as he continues to live the gospel.

I'm so happy that I have the gospel in my life and that I have the opportunity to help others.  Sometimes its hard to be away from my family or be in a country that eats a lot of bread which doesn't help my health at all.  Haha,  I love being here and being able to serve the people of Chile, it is all worth it!

I hope everyone has a solid Halloween and can get a lot of American candy because its way better than Chilean candy! Love you guys a ton have a good week:)

WEEK 65

This Week From Elder Colin Eyre in Vina del Mar Chile:

This week was good and my comp and I had so many great experiences!

We have been working hard and preparing an investigator for baptism.  Unfortunately by  the end of the week he was not able to get baptized as we thought.  We have had many family nights with him and other families from the area to help him feel a part of the branch.  I feel pretty positive that in the next few weeks we will be able to baptize him.

Our P-Day was pretty fun, we went on a hike up in the dry hills of my sector.  I included some pics of it.  Chile is seriously such a beautiful place. They do have some hard core big cactuses and they are scary!  At one point a little one went in my foot it was just the worst haha!

This week we have interviews at our house with the mission president so that should fun.  Anyways I hope everyone will be able to have a way fun Halloween and that all goes well in the USA!  Love you tons and peace out!

This Week From Elder Colby Eyre in Santiago Chile:

Hey guys this week has been pretty good! Today I transferred to a new area.  I am now in an area called Los Chayavientos.  I am pretty excited to start working here.  I will say at the same time I am sad to leave my old area because it was so awesome.  With the new area came a new companion.  He is actually pretty cool and has only been on his mission four months.  He is from Georgia.

I wanted to share an experience I had this week specific to prayer.  I was talking to another missionary and he was telling me some pretty cool stories that he has personally had about prayer.  Afterward I was like hey I've got to put this to the test!  That same day we had a really important lesson to teach to all girls.  The mission rule is that a guy has to be present.  We can't just go into a house if a guy isn't there.  In my head I was like stink, what are we going to do!  Well I knew exactly what I was going to do.  Before we left our pension my companion and I said a prayer.  I specifically asked that before we arrived to the house to teach the lession we could find somoeone to come with us.  After our prayer we left walking to the lession knowing that if we got there and there wasn't a guy we couldnt even teach our lesson as planned.  The entire time I was walking with all the faith I had knowing that the Lord wouldn't let us down.  I began calling people in the ward to see if anyone could meet us at their house.  I knew that I needed to do my part if I was going to ask Heavenly Father to do his.  Well guess what when we were about 3/4ths  of the way there we got in contact with a member to come with us.  I knew without a doubt it was a straight miracle and direct response to my prayer!

I'm so thankful for the opportunity that we get everyday to talk with our Father in Heaven.  I want to invite everyone that you can be more specific in your prayers because I know the Lord will respond to them and help us out!

Thanks everyone back home.  I love you all!

WEEK 64

This Week From Elder Colin Eyre in Vina del Mar Chile:

This week was good my comp and I saw a huge miracle with a less active family.  We invited them to come to church and they accepted and brought their kids.  They are so happy to be back and want us to help prepare their kids for baptism.  We also had a random contact in the street and invited them to church and they came!  It was pretty cool and made me so happy.

This past week we also needed to give a blessing to a guy who happened to be in the hospital.  Now if you know me, right about now you are thinking Colin doesn't do well in hospitals and usually he passes out pretty easy!  I couldn't say no but just as we got to the hospital I started to feel sick.  We headed up to the guys hospital room and that's when he starts telling us all about his surgery.  At this point I am literally sweating bullets.  I couldn't take anymore of the story so I interrupted to tell him we had come to give him a priesthood blessing.  I am trying with all I have not to pass out and I begin to give him a blessing.  The moment I lay my hands on his head I felt great and knew I was going to be ok.  Then mid blessing I realized in all my trying not to pass out I forgot the blessing oil!  Yep, I had to start all over!  It was pretty embarrassing but my comp and I had a pretty good laugh on the way home!

Things are going well here in Chile and I can honestly say I am enjoying the time! It is always cool seeing how the gospel blesses people so much!
Elder Colin Eyre

This Week From Elder Colby Eyre in Santiago Chile:

Hey everyone this week has been pretty great!  This last weekend it rained a ton.  I just happened to be the only Elder with a rain coat and an umbrella so I felt like I needed to share.  I gave two other elders my umbrella thinking my coat would keep me dry, I mean it is a rain coat!  Well no such luck it lasted for about two hours and then I felt like I was swimming in a pond shoes and all!  When we arrived at this ladies house to teach we looked like a couple of wet dogs so she gave us towels to dry off.  I do love the mission, rain and all!

Other than that it has been a pretty normal week.  I have learned to love the gospel so much being out here.  I have also learned to love the people of Chile, especially where I'm serving right now.  I have been able to teach so many.  Sadly, next week we have changes so we'll see if I go or stay but either way I love the gospel!

Have an amazing week everyone you guys are the best!
Elder Colby Eyre

WEEK 63

This Week From Elder Colin Eyre in Vina del Mar Chile:

This week was pretty good!  I have a new comp, Elder Arias, that is from Ecuador.   It has been fun learning how the people from Ecuador are.  He is pretty humble and a good teacher so its cool to learn from him.  I have to add I definitely loved my time with Elder Hammond!

Anyways, this week we have been working with a lady named Cory and she has two kids.  One is named Ricardo and the other is Darlin!  They are both pretty cool and Ricardo is preparing to be baptized. We have taught them several times and its been cool to see how the gospel has started to help them.  I have already noticed that they are all so much happier!  Yesterday Cory told us that she has noticed the gospel help her son Ricardo act much more calm so that was awesome!  I love being a part of helping others better themselves in this life and teach them the gospel :)

I hope everyone in Utah is

enjoying their time and loving the fall leaves because we're going into summer right now! I love everyone a ton and hope you guys can have a great week!
Elder Colin Eyre

This Week From Elder Colby Eyre in Santiago Chile:

Hey everyone back home I miss all you guys so much, but I'm also happy to be here in Chile preaching the gospel!

I think the best part of my week was a lesson that we had with this family we have been working with.  The wife is less active and the husband isn't a member.  We have been trying so hard to get them to progress and grow their testimonies.  In the past we have talked about the Word of Wisdom and they know about it but were putting it aside.  This week we talked about baptism and we told them that they need to follow the Word of Wisdom.  The Dad was like I know that it will be hard but I'm willing to give up alcohol!   My comp and I were both so excited!  After the lesson they always offer to feed us so we were eating after and the Dad poured his wife a glass of iced tea.  Then the wife said to her husband if you are going to quit alcohol then I am going to quit iced tea!  Honestly that made my whole day but then to top that off they came to church and the wife got up and bore her testimony!  I was so happy, just a few months ago she hadn't been to church in ten years!  I can't tell you how much this strengthened my own testimony and brought such joy to my heart.

I know that the church is true and that Heavenly Father loves each and everyone of us. Thanks family and friends for supporting me on my mission.  I love you all and have an awesome week!

WEEK 62

This Week From Elder Colin Eyre in Vina del Mar Chile:

Colin didn't write this week, but he LOVED conference!

This Week From Elder Colby Eyre in Santiago Chile:

Hey guys this week has been pretty great here in Chile.  By far the best part of the week was watching General Conference!!  I loved it and I got my way into the English room too!  My comps were telling me that I should watch it in Spanish with them but I was like, no way English will be much more enjoyable.

I felt the spirit so many times in Conference.   I loved the talk about the Book of Mormon that a Seventy gave.  I think it was in the Priesthood session, but man it was so good and I also loved that he talked about the different ways that we can see that the Book of Mormon is true.  He said for some people it comes super fast and for others really slow.  However the promise is always there that it will come if we have the faith to read it and pray about it.

Another one that I loved was from Elder Nelson about Joy and how we can have more Joy in our lives.  I loved when he said, "when the focus of our lives is on Jesus Christ and His gospel, we can feel joy regardless of what is happening or not happening in our lives." I loved that quote because I have found that so true on my mission and finding people that are here in Chile.  There are so many that are so faithful to the gospel and they have so much joy in their lives because of it.  I also see on the other hand there are people that aren't so faithful and do half the job, with half the faith and I can see a big difference in the joy and happiness in there lives.  I hope that all of us can be a little more faithful, me including haha! I know that we can have more joy in our lives!

Have a great week everyone at home i love you all.

WEEK 61

This Week From Elder Colin Eyre in Vina del Mar Chile:

This week was pretty good!  Funny thing, I was giving a blessing and right before the blessing I recited the words a few times with my comp.  I'm not sure what happened with my concentration but I started out reciting the baptism prayer.  It was a bit embarrassing but after my comp and I got a pretty good laugh from it.

This week we have been able to teach a lady that has been drinking tea for a very long time.  She just stopped drinking tea so she could keep the commandments and it was just a solid miracle because I know it has been really hard for her and is a sacrifice but its pretty cool!!!

We have also been teaching another kid named Ricardo he is eight years old. Ricardo really wants to be baptized and comes to church every week with his mom.  It's pretty fun he loves to play a game called Ninja after and always wants me to play.  It looks kind of like Fifa.  He was pretty sad when I told him we can't play video games but I told him it's all good!

I hope life is good in Utah and everyone can enjoy the fall:)
Elder Colin Eyre

This Week From Elder Colby Eyre in Santiago Chile:

Hey guys this week has been pretty awesome.  It's pretty fun being with two other missionaries all the time.  We have been getting along pretty well as a tri-companionship.  Elder Lopez is teaching me some stuff on the guitar which is great!  I got the guitar at the beginning of my mission but haven't touched it since.  I'm hoping that when I get home I can sing some sweet hymns with the guitar haha!  I know it's a dream but with faith anything is possible!

In my sector we take buses every day and man they are so crazy flying over speed bumps, drifting corners and everything you guys have in mind haha!  I am not kidding! My comp and I were in the bus and my comp took his hand off the rail he was holding on too and right then the bus slammed on the brakes and man my comp went flying! It was pretty funny after because he was okay and didn't get hurt.  After I was like hey man you let go of the iron rod so that's why you went flying!  I really thought about it after, it is really so much like our own lives.  When we are living the gospel we are holding onto the iron rod.  I thought that day if we take our hands off the iron rod or stop following the commandments trials can come at any moment and can throw us around and hurt us so that is why we have the commandments and that is why we always need to obey and follow them because we never know when the trials will come.

Well that's was my spiritual thought this week.  I hope all you guys have an awesome week and hang onto that iron rod. I love every single one of you!
