WEEK 26

This Week From Elder Colin Eyre in Vina del Mar Chile:

This week was pretty sweet!  We had this World Wide Missionary Meeting that all missionaries everywhere got to see.   We all watched it at the same time so that was pretty great.  We had some head missionary leaders in the church speak and some apostles.  My favorite was with Elder Bednar.   They did like a question and answer thing and all the missionaries had iPads.  I was like holy smokes I haven't used one of those in months, so lucky for them haha! Anyway Elder Bednar would have the missionaries turn to different scriptures on the iPad.   He would say ok, turn to D&C chapter blah blah blah and because they had iPads they could do it SO fast.  I couldn't keep up with them.   I still learned so much.  They talked about baptism and converts.  I know in my ward there are about 1000 members but only 80 or so that come to church each week.  I am pretty sure thats not good.  Even though its really cool to baptize we need to make sure they people are doing it for the right reasons and help them get off to a good start.  We are having a big push on working with the less actives as well. I know that with hard work we can help the people come unto Christ.  We have to help them learn to have faith and keep pushing along in the gospel.

I also saw my homie Chan today.  We see each other three days a week which is so awesome.  We just talk all the time and I'm super greatful for him.  He taught me a sweet way to teach  lesson 2 The Plan of Salvation.  I'm definatly going to do a noche de hogar con mi familia when I get home and teach the same lesson cuz its sweet.

We have this kid thats planning to be baptized next week his name is Remijeo.  He is pretty cool he is fifteen years old.  He is amazing he is so young and just wants to Come unto Christ.  It is cool because Elder Silva and I had fasted that we would be able to find someone that was searching for the gospel.  We found Remijeo that same day.  That sure was a testimony builder for me!  I know God works through miracles and I can have success if I am always working hard.  I'm greatful for what I have and I'm so blessed to have my family.  When I think of them it brings a big smile to my face.  I know that when we are tired but just keep doing the work that is when the miracles happen!  Thanks for all the love and prayers.  Enjoy the snow, I sure miss being on the slopes Haha but the Lords work it better. :)

This Week From Elder Colby Eyre in Santiago Chile:

This week has been pretty good!  We've had lots of meetings this past week.  We had an area Seventy come talk to us and that was super awesome.  He talked a lot about just working hard and inviting everyone especially less actives to come unto Christ.  It was really a great motivator, I loved it.

I guess its a vacation time in Chile right now and lots of people are gone.  Many of the people we are teaching are gone.  We did find a girl named Claudia shes a girlfriend of a less active.  We took her on a tour of the temple grounds a few weeks ago.   I know that was a great experience for her and we all felt the spirit.   She has set a date to be baptized on February 20th so that is really exciting.  We had also been teaching a girl named Cynthia and she seemed so interested.  Well this past two weeks we just haven't been able to get  ahold of her.  Elder Aguirre and I were really disappointed because we felt she had come so far with the lessons and wanted to be baptized.  Keep praying for her  I know one day she will be baptized.

Nothing too crazy has happened.  I'm just doing some missionary work over here in Chile haha!  I know this is where I should be and I am learning so much.  Enjoy that Utah snow because it's freaking hot here!  Have a great week!

I love you all,
Elder Colby Eyre

WEEK 25

This Week From Elder Colby Eyre in Santiago Chile:

Hey guys this week has been pretty good. Sadly Cynthia didn't come to church nor have we had another lesson with her.  However, another fam that we have been working with came to church for the second time and they have baptism dates set for the 20th of February. I am hoping we can make that happen they are a super awesome family.  The  mom and grandma are members but the two kids aren't members and they are investigating the church right now.  We also had several other lessons we taught this week. I continue every week to learn so much from my companion.   He is super in tune with the spirit especially during our lessons which is great.

This week my comp and I bought a watermelon it was huge and cost like less than three bucks.  The bag I'm holding in my hands is only half so I guess I'll be eating watermelon for days!

We also had the opportunity to do a tour of the temple with a few less active members and an investigator. It was so awsome and spiritual. We only took them as far as the front desk inside the temple but it was super spiritual and I know they felt the spirit.

Thanks so much for everyone who encouraged me to be out here serving the Lord.  I know this is where I should be.

I love all of you guys,
Elder Colby Eyre

WEEK 24

This Week From Elder Colin Eyre in Vina del Mar Chile:

This week was pretty sweet! I got some gnarly foot insoles haha. I have been having knee troubles and the doc said a new insole will help right now.  It is really uncomfortable but all is well and I just keep walking.  We are also having transfers this week and I will be transferred so I won't have to walk so many hills each day.  I am sad to be changing because there are so many members in the ward I just love.  I know I will be somewhere close to Viña because I have been doing physical therapy each day to try and strengthen my knee and the mission president wants me to continue to do that.

Yesterday I was able to give a blessing to a sick kid named Joshua.  When I ended the prayer I was trying to say god loves you a lot but what I actually said was I love you a lot!  It was funny after Elder Rogerson said dude I'm pretty sure you just told Joshua you loved him a lot!  We got a good laugh out of it.  I am always working to improve my Spanish that's for sure.

This week we invited this guy to baptism he has had the missionaries for a long time but we felt inspired to teach him about families.  Afterward we invited him to baptism and I was shocked when he said YES!  I told him he needs to start attending church so we will see if he comes this next Sunday.

I am really just trying to enjoy my mission in Chile and get more involved with the work.  My testimony is growing through hard times but I know that what I learn will bless my life forever and also the lives of others! Thanks for all the love and prayers.  I hear the Utah snow is awesome right now.

Love everyone tons!

This Week From Elder Colby Eyre in Santiago Chile:

Hey guys this week has been pretty good!

Today for P-Day we went and did a tour of one of the professional soccer teams in Chile, Colo Colo.  They are Loco Loco legit!  When theres a game the people go crazy its great! I will be honest REAL SALT LAKE´s stadium is by far way cooler haha.

With missionary stuff this week has been pretty good.  We found this lady named Sintia, she's what I call a golden investigator.  Sintia accepted a baptismal date and it's set for the 20th of February.  We have a second lesson with her tonight at 7:00pm  I am praying she will be in her house haha. She is super awesome and she has two kids ones really young and doesn't talk.  It was funny during our last lesson he destroyed his face in yogurt, it was all over!  Sintia also has a twelve year old daughter.  I think she is also interested in being baptized.  I am really looking forward to tonight and just pray all goes well.  They would be a really neat family to have in the gospel.  I really felt like our last lesson with them went well.

Also this week we had transfers.  Lucky for me nothing changed. I will still be with the three Argentine amigos!  I was worried because I kind of have a stock up of food and I would be sad if I had to leave that behind but its all good everything is great down here in Chile.

I hope you guys have a great week love you all!

WEEK 23

This Week From Elder Colin Eyre in Vina del Mar Chile:

This week was great, it was a little different with New Years.  We got to watch the movie Cokeville Miracle on New Years Day.  It was pretty cool and the movie is dece just a little cheesy but who doesn't like a little cheesy movie every once in a while, right?!  Viña does one of the worlds biggest firework shoes and this week we were able to see the show at midnight.  We got permission to leave out sweet apartment and see the fireworks.  They were amazing we watched them from Valparaíso.  I got some pretty sweet videos and it was something I will remember forever!

New Years day there were many drunk people in the streets.  It was kinda sketchy but super funny haha!  Anyways we were on our way to see the movie Cokeville Miracle when some drunk dude passed moaning and groaning.  He was really close to us and I didn't even want to look his way.  All of a sudden when he is just a couple feet from me all these pesos come hauling past my face.  I turn and he had just hucked them at us like point blank it was nutz!  Somehow not one peso hit my face.  I was like holy smokes the Holy Ghost just saved me!  Inside I was like wow I really do have help from the Lord.  Then I look at my comp and he was feeling his head and he had gotten hit by just a few of them and it had broken his skin slightly.  We were both pretty shocked that I hadn't been hit because I was right in front of the man.  It was kinda scary but we continued on our way and didn't let it ruin our day.

We also were able to teach Roberto y Romina this week.  Roberto is heading down south for 2 months to build a gym so I'm sad about that because he was really progressing.  I don't think Romina wants much to do with the church.  I'm grateful for the time we did have with them and hopeful we can teach Roberto when he returns.

The mish is good it's still hard sometimes but I have learned SO many things about the scriptures and teaching the lessons.  I know if I keep trying I will be able to progress even more. I just gotta put my shoulder to the wheel and push along haha!

Thanks for all the prayers you guys are awesome love ya tons peace out!

This Week From Elder Colby Eyre in Santiago Chile:

Hey guys this week has been pretty good.  We couldn't watch all the fireworks because we had to be in our beds by 11:30pm New Years Eve. It's all good, it was fun to hear them going off while laying in bed haha!

We have had some great success with the Fierro family this week.  They are really an awesome family.  We are teaching the brother and sister.  Their mother is less active but the kids are really interested. We have invited them to church this Sunday so we are praying they show up.

Everything in the mish is great.  I'm learning more than I ever thought I would and thats awesome!   l hope you guys are loving the snow in Utah! Thats one thing I do miss in January especially when its 90 degree weather here in Chile.

I love all you guys and hope you have a great week.

WEEK 22

This Week From Elder Colin Eyre in Vina del Mar Chile:

This week was good I loved talking to the fam on Christmas!  It definitely got me home sick haha but it went away fast. Funny I had a hard time speaking Spanish after.  We went way over the forty minute time limi. Man the time just flew by.  I loved every minute.

Thank you to everyone who sent me things for Christmas. I got some sweet stuff. I really loved my American flag socks!   It was hard to be away from my family on Christmas. One time my comp got ice and a cheese grader to make some snow it was pretty funny.

This week we found two gold investigators.  We contacted them on the street and had a meeting with them the next day.  We got to their house which looked like a box on top of a shack.  It kind of looked like a treehouse. Inside it was actually pretty nice inside.  From the looks of things inside I think he pirates movies for a living.  He served us lemonade and a Christmas cake which was so nice of them.  He and his girlfriend asked us pretty funny questions like are Mormons allowed to dance but they did seem pretty interested in our message.  Hopefully we will be able to teach them again.

I am excited for New Year's Eve we get to watch a huge fire work show so thats sick.  Anyways I love you all so much.

Love,
Elder Colin Eyre

This Week From Elder Colby Eyre in Santiago Chile:

Hey guys this week has been super awesome.  I got to talk with the fam and that was definitely the highlight. Christmas Eve was awesome we had two dinner appointments I thought I was gonna die after haha but its all good. Then on Christmas we did some solid contacting that night with Christmas hand out cards we were able to pass several out.

Right now we have two investigators that could be promising. The first one was funny because we contacted this girl and her boyfriend. She said she wasn't interested at all but maybe her sister would listen. So she grabs her sister, Leslie and her sister's daughter, Fernanda.  They were both super interested and we were able to teach them the first discussion.  Leslie said she loved the first lesson.  We had to teach them on their patio because a guy wasn't there.
Then the second contact is Katy.  We contacted her a while ago but this week she actually let us in her home.  We were able to teach both Katy and her son.

This morning I was reading the Book of Mormon in 2 Nephi chapter 31.  It is when Christ is baptized.  There are so many great things in it but I love the part about enduring to the end.  Being on a mission isn't always easy.  I know if we can always read the scriptures, go to church and pray we will always have a strong testimony.

Love you all,
Elder Colby Eyre
