WEEK 43

This Week From Elder Colin Eyre in Vina del Mar Chile:

This week was pretty sweet.  We have been working hard everyday.  I know the harder I work the more Heavenly Father will help me in my daily studies and learning. I pray each day that not only will God help me in my studies but also in the lessons we teach.  I know he listens to our prayers.

We have a baptismal date set for this coming Sunday I'm pretty psyched about it.  My only worry is that this past Sunday he didn't show up to church.  He said his mom had given him sleeping pills Saturday night and he didn't wake up in time for church, so we will see.  We have a few lessons set up with him later this week as well.

After sacrament meeting on Sunday the first counselor in the bishopric came up to me and said, "Elder Eyre look at this pic!"  I looked at it and was SO happy.  There he was standing with my Bro, Colby.  I just love when things like that happen!

I love teaching the Chilenos.  Sometimes they have a hard time making church a priority   but its all good.  Thanks for all the prayers.  I love ya guys so much have a solid week!

This Week From Elder Colby Eyre in Santiago Chile:

Hey guys this week has been great being out in the middle of nowhere!  This past week we were doing interchanges and we had to take the bus.  Now remember I am new to the area and don't know my way around yet and the Elder I am with doesn't know the area either.  Well we got off the bus a little bit too early!  We had to walk about an hour to our lesson.  We just laughed about it!

I am really excited for this next week because my old investigator Ivory is going to be baptized.  I was a little bummed to be transferred before he was baptized but he really wants me to be there so the mission president gave me permission to be there.  I am really looking forward to that.

This past week we were visiting this less active family and we shared with them the Mormon Message, New Year's:Look Not Behind Thee.  I love the message of putting our past behind us and looking forward.  We can learn from the past but we shouldn't live in it.  The Savior atoned for our sins and because of that we can look forward with lots of happiness.  I am so thankful for Christ's atonement and I know that through the atonement we can make it back to our Heavenly Father and be so happy!

I love you all, have a great week.

WEEK 42

This Week From Elder Colby Eyre in Santiago Chile:

Hey guys this week has been pretty awesome! I absolutely love my new area, Pirque.  It is huge!  It would take an entire day to walk from one side to the other! We take a ton of buses because the people are much more spaced out than in the city.  The coolest part of the week was going up into this little city thats in the mountains.  We were straight up exploring the new city in the mountains and getting to know the place haha!!

This past week we had been contacting house to house in our new area for HOURS with no luck we were tired and ready to call it a day.  Finally we went to this house and the guy opens up his door and looks at us for a second then says, "hello", but with a pretty good accent!  Then he came out and was like hey Elders and he's speaking all in English!  Then he invites us in and tells us he is a returned missionary.  He served in the south of Chile.  After his mission he came to the US for a little while which is probably where he learned to speak English.  Sadly somewhere along the way he became inactive.   We invited him and his family to come to church this Sunday and he sincerely acts like he wants to come back. It was so awesome to see that miracle happen right in front of our eyes!! We had been contacting for so long and then finally found such an awesome guy and his family! I know that miracles exist and I know that if we always serve the Lord and work hard he will bless us so much!

Thanks for everyone back home who prays for the missionaries.  I love you all!

This Week From Elder Colin Eyre in Vina del Mar Chile:

This week was pretty cool!  I saw the coolest miracle happen with my homie Elder Jenson.   We had
changes for a day and so we were waiting for the bus and it was just pouring rain.  We were just talking while we waited but knew we needed to get to this meeting we had.  The bus was not coming and it was getting later and later.  Then we said you know what let's say a prayer that this bus comes.  We couldn't walk because it was just raining SO hard.  The second our prayer was over and we opened our eyes, the bus was right in front of us!  We both just smiled real big when we saw it, but it was so cool.  We called it a small mission miracle :)

Currently we have two people with baptism dates but only one of them came to church.  We are praying for miracles with both of them.  It always makes me really happy to see the investigators progressing.

We went on  a hike last Monday and I'm realizing how pretty Chile is! I love to go exploring on P-Day.  One day I'm totally coming back with my friends and family to go do some exploring!

Thanks everyone for all the prayers it helps a lot.  I hope everyone has a good week love you guys tons!

WEEK 41

This Week From Elder Colin Eyre in Vina del Mar Chile:

Yay!! Got to call the family this week it was so sweet!!!  At this exact moment I'm at the internet cafe I'm pretty sure someone is playing Regina Spector, it's pretty bumpin!!
Anyways I loved talking to the fam I could feel the spirit and am so happy that Heavenly Father has blessed me with such an awesome family and friends.  Even my Bro Anthony joined in for a minute it was great!

Not sure if you remember the guy Alejandro and he came to watch conference with us in April. It was pretty sweet because he loved it and was so interested in the church.  Then it was like he just fell off the face of the earth and we haven't seen him since.  Then this past week he sent me this way sweet email and wants to keep learning the gospel.  He said while he was away he had broken some commandments but now wants to repent and change and be better.  He said he really wants to follow our guidance.  I had to explain to him that it's not our guidance but the guidance of our Savior, Jesus Christ.  It is the Savior and following him that brings us real happiness!  It is exciting to have Alejandro back and hopefully he will stay around.

I am happy to be out here serving, it isn't always easy but I know it's worth it.  Talking to the fam was awesome!  I love everyone and thanks for all the prayers!

This Week From Elder Colby Eyre in Santiago Chile:

Hey guys this is Elder Eyre here again.  This week was pretty great because I got to talk with the fam on Mother's Day.  I am so thankful for all of them and how great they are to me.

Yesterday we had changes and I got changed to a branch in Pirque, Chile. It's an area right outside of Santiago in the mountains.  It is a huge area and I'm really excited to be serving here.  We actually have to take a thirty minute bus ride each day into the area.   Everyone says its super cool and pretty with lots of fields and open land.  It's the only area like this on my mission so that's exciting!

My new companion is Elder Ries he is super cool and he is from Murrieta, California.  Elder Ries is on his last transfer so I will be his last companion.  That great thing about that is I will be able to learn a lot from him.  I can already tell he has such a strong testimony and knowledge of the gospel.

Thanks for everything everyone does for me and for all the prayers.  You guys are the best, I love you all.  Lastly a shout out to my amazing mother it is her birthday this week!

WEEK 40

This Week From Elder Colby Eyre in Santiago Chile:

Hey family and friends!

This was pretty cool.  I had my birthday which was really great.  I had set my hopes up pretty low for that day so I wouldn't be disappointed.  The day actually turned out to be pretty great.  I could feel the love the investigators and members have for all the missionaries.

We got to work a lot with investigators this week.  The time flies when we are working with investigators and talking with people out on the streets.  Some days end and I'm sad that we didn't have time to get everything in we had planned.  It is crazy to me how fast the time is passing by.

My comp and I cut a picture of the temple up to make a puzzle.  We shared the puzzle and a message with a few less actives and they loved it.  It was awesome when they put it together and then we were able to talk about the temple and how important it is in our lives.  It strengthened my testimony of the temple and my testimony of eternal families.  I am thankful for the blessing of the temple and to have the Santiago temple in my mission.

I hope you all have a great week.  I love you all.

This Week From Elder Colin Eyre in Vina del Mar Chile:

I had a great birthday!  Earlier in the morning I was with Elder Jensen and he was a straight homie and made breakfast for us.   We also had root beer floats which my bro Colby had sent me root beer and and a new Chilean scripture cover.  I was able to open a package from my family that my comp had put under our Christmas tree that is still up.  It was pretty funny.

At lunch a family had invited us over and they were just awesome and had a small birthday cake for me they had made.  It was really good and so nice of them.

The rest of the day we didn't have any lessons set up and we were rejected a lot and not many people would talk to us!  However, today I realized that these two years aren't really for me.  These two years are for the Lord and that includes my birthdays and even Christmas.  I want to be able to say when all is said and done that I gave each and every day to the Lord to serve him.

I love each one of you.

Love,
Elder Colin Eyre

WEEK 39

This Week From Elder Colin Eyre in Chile Vina del Mar:

This week was pretty sweet!!!  A member from Orem, Utah took my comp and I to lunch.  He took us to Subway and it was so funny because they don't make the sandwiches like they do at home and this member was getting so mad at the sandwich guy for not making them right.  We had a great time and it was so nice of him to take us to lunch and so great to be with a member.

On Saturday my old comp, Elder Silva ended his mission and his parents came to pick him up.  It was so sweet they only speak Portuguese and we were eating lunch with members when they showed up.  Elder Silva was SO happy!  It made me a little home sick but it was cool.  His parents are so nice and they wanted to take tons of pictures with me since I was one of Elder Silva's companions.  They were so excited to talk to me and everyonce in a while would speak really fast Portuguese. Didn't catch onto any of it!  Haha!!

Chile is great I think our investigator Daniel will get baptized soon we are taking things a little slowly with him to make sure he understands.  It has been raining a ton and it kinda sucks to be in it 24/7 but its all good.  I'm grateful for water proof things like my coat! I love learning to be closer to Christ and everyday I try to be a better teacher.  I love you guys tons thanks for all the love!!!!!!!!

This Week From Elder Colby Eyre In Santiago Chile:

This week has been pretty good.  We still have the dogs that are following us around.  We had a lesson this week and in the middle of it one of the dogs stuck his head in the door.  I'm sure just wondering when we would be coming out!!  After that I became distracted and it was hard to concentrate on the rest of the lesson.  I was really grateful a member stitched up my new coat that the bear dog had taken a big bite out of last week.

This week I finished reading the Book of Mormon!  The Book of Mormon is such a huge blessing in my life.  After finishing it for the first time on my mission my testimony has grown so much.  Watching other people read the Book of Mormon and see the change in them take place has also strengthened my testimony.  I know that the Book of Mormon is true and that as we read it our testimonies are strengthened.

Our investigators are doing pretty good.  We taught Ivory and Claudia this week and lessons are going well.

Thanks for everything everyone has done for me and all the love and prayers from home.
